Hinkley search society
we are holding a rally in support of the Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering (LOROS), a worthy cause that we have supported for many years.
The event will take place on Sunday 9th October 2005 at Enderby in Leicestershire on a 160 acre site that has been detected only once before some seven years ago.  Since then the fields have been ploughed and set on a yearly basis so the potential for some good finds looks promising. The fields available to us are a mixture of arable and pasture with the arable fields hopefully being ploughed, rolled and sown. Obviously this will depend upon the weather. Detecting will start at 9.00am and finish at 4.00pm.

Weekend wanderers Summer Rally

THE CHURCH ON THE HILL RALLY in Bucks.

Saturday & Sunday the 3rd & 4th of September 2005.
It was a really enjoyable day out, thanks to everyone who came over to say hello. At last a chance to put faces to names, the mineralised test soil I brought along caused some what of a stir, only being 3 inches deep a Roman coin was placed beneath it, out of every one who tried only one passed the test with flying colours. The Tejon with the new 12x10 widescan coil was the only metal detector what could find the small Roman coin through the dirt, even with the sensitivity as low as 2 the signal was loud and clear when other machines just gave an occasional click. So there you have it ladies and gentlemen the proof about the Tejon right before your eyes.
Some nice finds appeared throughout the day and those who put in the efforts were rewarded.
I would finally like to thank the land owner and all the guys at the Weekend wanderers for organising things and putting on a great rally.

metal detecting rally

The weather was perfect about 2 zillion hopeful detectorists turned up, it was nice to see some old faces, Goel and Alexander from Titanium detecting services in France turned up at my house at 6.30 AM after catching the eurotunnel. They were highly amused to see so many people detecting in one place. Finds were far and few between I did manage to see a Gold Celt with "R" stamped on it.
A great day well organised thanks to Peter,Sarah and the lads.

Dig news Feb 6th Huccelcote Rally Gloucester

Sorry no metal detecting pictures

Just like to thank Paul Bevan,Ashley and team for their hard work organising a great day out for us all.Nice to meet up and put names to faces,Blackhat,Andy (Bristol),Darren,Mike(sorry about the capital letters in E Mail mate),Dave P,Longcross, and many others thanks for saying hello.

The day started  really hectic with me trying to upgrade everyone's Gold Maxxes before the start, I met so many names and faces it was all a blur so forgive me if I didn't give you a mention, I work as a paint sprayer so I blame the paint for giving me a memory like a gold fish.
The dig got underway, and everyone headed for one particular patch, which was supposed to be a well kept secret, I was still at the van chatting to Dave from Pentechnic we decided to wait half hour and let the crowds clear. When we finally got to detect we couldn't believe how contaminated the site was in fact the worst site I have ever encountered for Iron contamination, Ashley had warned me it was going to be a real test for man and machine, especially when the smell of bacon was wafting over from the food tent, I think Dave and I lasted about 20 minutes before giving in to temptataion. Barry called on the radio to say he had 3 roman, and Paul had 12. The day just got better Roman coins were falling prey to the Gold Maxxes and Tejons.
The only way to get results was to work slow and investigate the clicks, as the dig was held on a Roman industrial site which had a carpet of Iron contaminated soil.
Hats off to the Explorer guys, the conditions were not ideal for them, but persistence paid off and they made some nice finds.

Total finds from our group
Paul 23 Roman

Barry slept like a baby all the way home in the van, just to let you know Baz I used up all your free minutes on your mobile when you were catching zzzzz, s.
Great day everyone we all enjoyed it

Jan 4th 2004

What a great way to start the new year, only five of us today, the Canadian went to London with the family, Doug was in bed with the flu, so we invited 2 new guests, Alan and Adrian which we have know for quite some time through the Wanderers digs.
Today's dig was at the same location as one we had last year near Oxfordshire, when we found some nice coins and crotal bells. We had searched this field very well on our last visit and knew any finds would have been well earned. Early signs were quiet as expected, so I met up with Barry back at the van for a cuppa, we noticed Steve marching up the hill to a grass bank, he appeared to be digging quite a lot, so we decided to follow him up and have a chat, It wasn't long before  Ady and Alan had joined us.Bazza called me over and asked would I dig this signal, it was slightly choppy but had a good side to it, I said yes I would," go on then it yours" he said," I cant be bothered to hack through all these flints". I dug the target and it was a broken Hammered short cross, I called Barry back and told him what it was. Then he dug another short cross and another, we moved aside and let him carry on as the machines were interfering with each other. After he had finished we moved in and had the last pickings, Barry found 6 short cross and 1 lizzy,I found 3 shortcross, steve and Ady had 1 shortcross each making 12 coins in total.
Steve had a lovely fish scaled crotal bell, all in we had a great day,
Cheers guys for filling your holes in and taking the rubbish home.

We had a dig today 14 Dec 2003

it was a small gathering in a tiny village which had been lost in time and tucked away  in a small corner of Buckinghamshire.

Bill had his first signal within seconds it was a button, then his next dig was a hammered(not yet identified)

Bills hammered with his DFX

A short while later Canadian Mark shouted,Hammered, then Steve shouted hammered, things were getting good,I had some buttons and the usual shotgun cases, but still no coinage. George found a Roman and some silver sixpences.

we stopped for a cup of tea,I put the Elliptical coil on the Gold Maxx and went out again,my prayers were answered a tiny hammered Henry VIII I think.

Then Steve found another with his new XP,Bill had a nice decorated belt mount then the Canadian topped the day off with another 2 hammereds.
