All hobbies can get on your nerves after a while and metal detecting is no exception, some of you may come to a point where the fun is no longer, you may just need a short break while the crops are growing.

Perhaps it is not time to pack up but simply give it a rest for a while and take up another interest to get you out of the house.
So many detectorists were once coarse fishermen or Specimen hunters. Dan my lad has shown an interest for quite some time, we have recently been visiting a local river and have had some great catches.
After a 15 year break I forgot how much fun and relaxation fishing really is, go out there and give it a try.

Dan started fishing in September 2007  here he is with a 6lb Chub a 9lb Pike and a 6lb Bream from the river Thames not a bad start to his fishing carrier

Well the boy has taken to fishing big time, sadly the detecting has been suffering as a consequence he appears to be very good or very lucky I am still trying to work that one out. One thing I can say is after switching to a pole Dan's catch rate has soared, he has taken to it like a duck to water.....his first junior match is booked for July.
The pictures below are a small selection of fish he has caught using the pole..
