Beach: need a permit?
« on: June 11, 2016, 06:45 am »
Hi guys,

I'm just thinking about detecting on the beach  8) one day. Do I need one of these permits from The Crown Estate?

http://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/rural-and-coastal/coastal/metal-detecting/metal-detecting-permit-application/

I've not seen much advice on obtaining beach permission.

Thanks  :D

For most of the beaches in UK you need a CROWN ESTATE permit.  There is a map on the site showing sites owned by them.

Sorry, another question. There are some nice wooded areas near me in Sheffield, how would I get permission for those?

The woodland will belong to someone, again, permission is a must. You will have to track down the landowner.

The purple areas on the map show what areas the Crown Estate own and not whether they lease it out or if it is SSI, you will need to do some homework to be certain you are permitted.

I usually ring the local council involved

Right I see. Thanks for advice, I'm going to have to give them a call about the woods.
