Hi there,
Hope you don't mind me asking, and I hope I'm not becoming a pest. Yesterday, hubby and I travelled to Maplins and had a mooch. There was a smallish hand trowel with a compass? Can you advise why there is a compass attached please? It's probably blatantly obvious, but unfortunately not obvious to me !
Many thanks once again.

Nothing more than a sales gimmick ;)

The folding spade is very poor quality, the additional compass was to tempt kids I think.

Thanks ever so. Must admit - it did have me wondering. Thanks for your help.

If you decide on a small spade then something like the Roughneck Mini is a good choice, but I find the little uns give me back ache. My advice is to shop around the DIY stores and even better try the bigger garden centres with a good choice. I t's worth finding one that's light enough but well made and it pays to spend a few quid and have something that lasts. When you have some time, log on to Regton or one of the other metal detecting stores and have a look at the kind of thing that's recommended for the hobby.

Thanks Keith,
I've pasted peoples' replies and helpful places, suggestions etc., into a sheet so I'll print it off, go through it and make a shopping list!
Thanks.
