Title: Whites M6 metal detector
Post by: rabert on December 15, 2016, 11:30 am
Just thought I would put this topic on it's own (for ease of finding).

There seems to be a conflict as to whether this is obsolete  (perhaps the word has two meanings)!!??     Does anyone know it's weight.   I've tried to Google it but the info doesn't seem to be given on the adverts.
I enquired at Joan Allens re them selling Whites M6 and they say the Minelab X Terra 705 is better for beaches.     I am so confused that it's unbelievable.
I dreamed we were all out metal detecting in the garden ! and one of you chaps found Lord Lucan !!!    HELP.

Rabert,
Joan Allen would say that.....they sell the 705 but they don't sell the m6 because it is no longer produced by whites.....I'm afraid that is all to do with sales.
The 705 will work on the beach just not brilliant on the wet sand.....if that is what you are looking at give it a go.

I'm sure that I recently saw the 705 has slumped in price.  Looks like everyone wants to shift them?

Hi,
How expensive is a Deus machine for beaches please?

Does Gary ever come onto the forum, or does he get pestered?

Is Joan Allen's about the best firm for reliability etc., and price for Minelab 705?  They answer promptly.

Thank you.

Don't try to run before you've started to crawl , asking JA about Minelabs is like asking a Ford dealer to recommend a Skoda

Hi Nailman,

?? -    :)
Hello  ;D :) ;D
I've heard that Minelab are dropping the X term range  hence the price drop.
The Deus is a machine that you move upto sure it has switch on and go programs, but it has loads of features that you Idealy need a good knowledge of how detectors and detecting works.
It's like passing your driving test starting with a small car you don't pass your test and buy a Ferrari, the Deus , e trac and CTX   are supper machines to get once you know the basics and decide if you like the hobby. :-\

Probably !!! as every bit of well intended and genuine help up to now appears to have
been side kicked and ignored by the look of things . These questions are now going around & around in circles .Firstly you said you didn`t want to spend much in case you didn`t like detecting , now The Deus at over a grand seems to be of interest ??? Sorry but  my instinct now tells me  I  think I`ll bow out of attempting to help any further now as my 6th sense is ringing a distinct alarm bell .  I wish you well in finding what your after.
So May I respectfully recommend Google .

Lots of people have started with an Ace 250, there are loads on ebay because people who stick with the hobby tend to move up to more complicated machines.  Although some stick with their 250 for years and are happy. The great thing about an Ace 250 is how cheap you can get one to try the hobby out.

I started with a Deus Lite, that's the Deus without the remote, it was £550.00 but they can be picked up cheaper.  I bought mine from a coin merchant after doing a few checks on his background.  It had 4 years guarantee left on it, and with the Deus the guarantee transfers to the new owner, not all guarantees do that. The Deus without the remote is much simpler but still has great performance.  If you like the hobby you can save up for the remote like I did and the machine becomes a more versatile machine with deeper programme changes for you to try.

I haven't seen much feedback on the Deus on wet sand but I have used it on dry sand and found some nice stuff, and of course it's brilliant on earth/land as plenty will testify.  If you don't like the hobby you will sell the Deus Lite no problem without much loss.

I'm with Peter on this one,you seem to be ignoring every bit of good advice that people have given up their time to share with you. This is the last advice i will be giving........the ace 250 is'nt ace on the beach..........do some hard research on beach detectors and come to a decision.
Good luck.

Morning all,
Thanks for all your advice.      I know it's difficult when your writing to understand what a person may be saying.   After Nailman's comment re car etc., , I replied with  a jokey, sort of tongue in cheek comment about buying an Ace 250! as he had mentioned the Skoda! (of course I know you couldn't see my smiley face or know me).     Sorry it went a bit flat and misunderstood.   I understand these things can happen and I apologise but it was meant as a pure , funny, sort of jokey comment -    not a genuine misunderstanding of your good guidance.
All your help has been absolutely fabulous and you've been so professional.   I am well impressed with you all - truly I am.   Yes, I shall do some Googling later and of course some You Tubing.          Sorry for my ignorance etc.,   I really don't know anything and you've all helped me so much. I've learned so much in the last week alone.    Thank you all for your time to advise me.    You sound such a great bunch of chaps.
Kind regards,

Your not ignorant, your just learning.  I don't blame you for being careful there's a lot to choose from out there.  I was terrified of buying a stinker when I started !!

Hi there,
No probs.    I can appreciate how you have all read it.     These things do happen and it is difficult to 'jest' in writing, not knowing the tones, grins , quips, of a person.   It is so lovely of you to apologise -   I'm well impressed!   lol.   You've really done me proud answering all my queries and have been so patient.
I shall come back later tonight when the natural day light goes .  (I'm busy doing a Christmas painting in oil).
That's a bit presumption -   you may not want me to come back pestering!
Before I dash.    Hubby sort of says to get a decent machine; the money doesn't matter, I've worked hard without ever being unemployed.   My idea is that if I don't get on with detecting etc., then I've wasted money.   I realize too, that if I don't get the right, decent machine for the job then I may tire more quickly.       So..... no rush ..... I will get there.
Thanks chaps.

White's M6 offer with details including the weight that you were asking for http://www.detecnicks.co.uk/The_Whites_Matrix_M6.html (http://www.detecnicks.co.uk/The_Whites_Matrix_M6.html)

Now budget is'nt a problem, you have opened up new avenues. All the top beach machines are quite expensive but as you realise,it I'd best to start with something you know is going to do the business for you.
As Keith mentioned, weight could be an issue, all the top beach machines can be a bit heavier, but you can always use a bungee harness to support the weight.

Hi Gonzo and 13oots.
Thanks for your comments and link etc.,
I've looked on the detecnicks site.  Their 'terms' page for beginners was interesting too - as were the machines.
The money, per se, isn't an issue.   I am usually determined when I study, learn new hobbies, etc., etc., but there's always the first time that I can fail.  I think it's because I know that I'm not particularly 'technical' (as men are) and it may stump me perhaps. Hubby doesn't mind which is good.    It's just that I have wanted to metal detect for so many, many years .  Most people I know think I've gone a bit 'potty' but that's alright.    Maybe I should just order a machine and hope I get it right.  ( you can't take  money with you -   it's for spending and enjoying).   lol.   I am getting a better idea of machines, thanks to you all.

(you're probably all yawning now) -   lol. ;D ;D ;D
